The Ghana Health Service (GHS) has received a significant boost to its Community-based Health Planning and Services (CHPS) operations with the handover of 486 new motorcycles.

The motorcycles, procured through the United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS) with funding support from the Global Fund, will enhance logistical capacity in CHPS zones and sub-districts across 10 major regions.

According to the Service, motorcycles are part of the Sub-District Strengthening Initiative (SDSI) aimed at improving primary healthcare delivery in high-burden districts.

Acting Head of Office, UNOPS Ghana, Ms. Linda Agbesi, presented the motorcycles, reaffirming UNOPS’ commitment to strengthening national health systems.

Ag. Deputy Director-General, Dr. Caroline Reindorf-Amissah, emphasized the importance of investments under the Resilient Systems for Sustainable Health (RSSH) framework in advancing universal health coverage.

She noted that CHPS remains Ghana’s innovative model for delivering essential services at the community level, and the motorcycles will significantly enhance home visits, community outreach, emergency referrals, and integrated HIV, TB, and malaria interventions.

The Service also mentioned that additional medical equipment, including diagnostic tools, obstetric sets, and infection prevention supplies, will also reinforce CHPS operations, addressing long-standing functionality gaps and supporting routine preventive and curative services.

Ag. Regional Director of Health Services for Greater Accra, Dr. Robert Amesiya, expressed appreciation for the support and pledged effective deployment and utilization of the motorcycles.
