Businessman Mr. Ibrahim Mahama has denied any interest in acquiring the Volta Aluminium Company, VALCO, describing recent allegations linking him to a takeover bid as false.
In a statement signed by his Special Aide, Rafik Mahama, the businessman said his attention had been drawn to a demonstration held by the Labour Union of VALCO, during which some demonstrators alleged that he was interested in acquiring the company.
“Mr Ibrahim Mahama has no such interest and has not made any such offer to acquire VALCO,” the statement said.
The statement described the allegation as “the latest in several vile attempts to impute the integrity of Mr Ibrahim Mahama and subject him to needless public engagements.”
It added that the track record of businesses associated with Mr. Mahama proves they are “one of the best run operations across the African continent.”
“All of the business interest of Mr Mahama have been legally commenced or acquired and operate within the ambit of applicable laws. That explains why his businesses have survived across seven (7) election cycles,” the statement noted.
The statement further said Mr. Mahama remains committed to contributing to the development of Ghana by investing in business opportunities in Ghana and beyond.
According to the statement, Mr. Mahama has instructed his lawyers to take “the necessary legal action” over the matter.
VALCO, located in Tema, has in recent years been the subject of various discussions over its operations and potential investors.
