The Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection (MoGCSP) has warned the public to stop sharing graphic videos and images purportedly showing Ghanaian fashion icon and actress Nana Akua Addo and her child being assaulted.
The warning comes after disturbing footage of Ms. Addo with visible injuries from an alleged physical altercation, and separate footage purportedly showing a child being subjected to physical violence, went viral on social media.
In a statement dated Tuesday, October 6, 2026, the Ministry that while public concern is understandable, the continuous circulation of such material could further expose and distress those involved, particularly the child.
The Ministry said it is deeply concerned about the reports and is closely following developments to ascertain the wellbeing and safety of the persons involved.
It stressed that violence in all its forms is unacceptable and must not be normalised, excused or tolerated, and warned perpetrators that they will be held accountable under the Domestic Violence Act, 2007 (Act 732) and the Children’s Act, 1998 (Act 560).
“No relationship, domestic circumstance, disagreement or perceived provocation justifies violence or abuse,” the statement said.
The Ministry also urged women and all persons experiencing domestic and gender-based violence not to suffer in silence, and encouraged the public to report cases to the nearest police station or Social Welfare office, or call 0800-111-222, 055 175 7575 on WhatsApp, or 0800-800-800 / 0800-900-900 for help.
