The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has inaugurated a 9-member National Elections Committee to oversee processes leading to the Party’s National Conference for the election of National Officers, with former Suhum MP Frederick Opare-Ansah pledging fairness, transparency and credibility throughout.

The Committee was inaugurated by the Acting National Chairman, Chairman Butey, who charged members to discharge their duties with integrity, impartiality and professionalism in accordance with the Party Constitution and applicable regulations.

Opare-Ansah will chair the Committee. Abena Osei Asare is Vice Chairperson and Evans Nimako is Secretary.

Other members are Oboshie Sai Cofie, Anthony Abayifa Karbo, Salam Ama Appianin Damata, Eric Ntori, the incoming Ashanti Regional Chairman who will join after the Ashanti Regional Elections, and Frank Davies, Esq.

The Committee’s mandate is to plan, organize and superintend all processes leading to the National Conference, and to conduct the elections in line with the Party’s Constitution.

Speaking after the inauguration, Chairman Opare-Ansah thanked the Party leadership for the confidence reposed in the Committee. He described the assignment as one that goes “beyond the conduct of an election” to safeguarding the democratic traditions, unity and credibility of the NPP.

“We recognize the enormous responsibility entrusted to us. We are determined to ensure that every stage of the process is conducted with fairness, transparency, integrity and strict adherence to the Constitution and the rules governing the elections,” he said.

He appealed to all aspirants, Party officers and members to support the Committee by respecting established rules and procedures.

The Committee, he added, will engage all relevant stakeholders to ensure transparency, build confidence and promptly address concerns that may arise.

“While elections naturally involve competition, they should ultimately strengthen rather than divide the Party,” Opare-Ansah said.

He added: “Our objective is not merely to conduct successful elections but to leave the Party stronger, more united and better positioned for the important national task ahead. Every contestant and every delegate must have confidence that the process will be impartial and that every vote will count.”

He assured members that the Committee will work independently, professionally and without fear or favour, with fairness to all contestants as its guiding principle.

The NPP expressed confidence that the Committee possesses the experience, competence and integrity required to deliver a credible electoral process worthy of the Party’s democratic traditions.
