The University of Ghana branch of the University Teachers Association of Ghana (UTAG-UG) has threatened to embark on an industrial action over delays in the payment of its members’ 2026 Book and Research Allowance.
In a statement released on Friday, October 9, 2026, the association expressed dissatisfaction with what it described as persistent delays in the payment of the allowances.
According to UTAG-UG, the delays contravene the Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) signed between the association and the government in 2020, which stipulates that the allowances should be paid by the end of August each year.
The association has therefore warned that if the outstanding payments are not made by Friday, October 16, 2026, its members will withdraw all teaching-related services from Monday, October 19, 2026.
The proposed action could disrupt teaching and other academic activities at the University of Ghana if the issue remains unresolved.
