Leader of United Progressive Party, Akwasi Addai Odike has taken a swipe at the Electoral Commission of Ghana describing it as an entity that is governed by ‘orders from above’.
Speaking on ‘Angel in the Morning’ hosted by Kwame Tanko, Odike stated that the EC’s inability to make informed decision ‘clearly tells that the organisation is being controlled’.
According to the UPP leader, the EC needs enough time to embark on public education before its intended registration exercise.
“The EC has lost the trust of the people. Ghanaians no longer believes in the abilities of the commission to organize a credible free and fair election. The referendum exposed the EC big time. Why did Jean Mensah print ballot papers and order of polls. Ask the EC how much it cost the country after calling off the referendum . Parliament approved and paid the EC.
“Why did the EC finally settled on the Ghana card? The EC has limited time to compile the register and conduct polls. We plead with the EC not to rush things. Just as we’re not in normal times, the activities of the EC can’t be normal either. Forget this year’s election period!”, Odike yelled.
