The 2020 National Democratic Congress’ (NDC) Parliamentary Candidate for Agona West, Paul Ofori-Amoah, has admitted to issuing out two bank cheques found on persons currently in police custody for allegedly plotting to kill Gender Minister, Cynthia Morrision.

Mr. Ofori-Amoah, according to Central Regional Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Irene Oppong, gave the two Stanbic Bank cheques for Ghȼ5,000 each to the suspects prior to their arrest by the Swedru police at a hotel where they had lodged.

She, however, refused to mention the purpose for which the cheques were issued to the four suspects- Saddick Abubakar, Gordon Kunya, Isaac Addea and Dauda Fatau.

This is in sharp contrast to the opposition party’s parliamentary aspirant’s narration on the ‘Anɔpa Bɔfoɔ’ morning show on Angel 102.9 FM on Monday, October 19, that he could not recall giving out the cheques.

Paul Ofori Amoah
Paul Ofori Amoah had said he could not recall issuing the bank cheques to the suspects.

“It will be very difficult to recall if I have misplaced my cheque or I have even given my cheques out since I had a stressful moment over the weekend with my Presidential Candidate, John Dramani Mahama,” Mr. Ofori-Amoah told host Captain Smart.

According to him, he had planned to give one of the suspects, Isaac Addae, money but could not remember if he did or not.

Paul Ofori-Amoah had in a video he published on various social media platforms moments after Angeonline.com.gh broke the news, ridiculed claims that he and his boys were plotting to kill the sitting MP, Mrs. Cynthia Morrison who is also the Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection.

“There is nothing like Paul wanting to kill somebody, or wanting to kill any MP. We are focused, our eyes are fixed on the prize, as we wanting to win this election. And they know very well that we are winning, all these antics and the rest doesn’t mean anything to me,” he said in the said video released on Sunday, October 18.

Crime

Meanwhile, the Criminal Investigations Department of the Police in Central Region on Monday invited the candidate to assist with investigations.

He was said to have been questioned on his alleged involvement relating to “Preparations to commit crime to wit: murder” and “Abetment to commit crime to wit murder.”

The Cape Coast Circuit Court presided over by Mrs. Dorinda Smith Arthur, remanded the four suspects into police custody.

They have been slapped with two preliminary charges; “Preparation to commit crime to wit: murder” and “Carrying offensive weapon.”

They will reappear on October 30, 2020.
