Deputy Foreign Affairs Minister, Kwaku Ampratwum-Sarpong, has assured the Cuban Ambassador to Ghana that the bilateral relation between the two countries would continue to blossom.

The Minister recalled the longstanding cordial relations between Ghana and Cuba dating back to Ghana’s independence and acknowledged that the past few years have witnessed the further strengthening of ties between both nations.

He made these remarks when His Excellency Pedro Luis Despaigne Gonzalez, Cuban Ambassador to Ghana, requested to pay a farewell call on the minister prior to his departure from Accra.

Mr. Kwaku Ampratwum-Sarpong expressed “the hope that Ghana-Cuba relations will continue to flourish on all fronts for the mutual benefit of the two countries”.

He commended the Ambassador for the great strides made during his tenure and also made reference to the assistance offered by the Cuban Embassy and authorities during the official visit of President Akufo-Addo, Vice-President Bawumia, Foreign Affairs Minister and other high ranking government officials to Cuba.

Touching on bilateral cooperation between Ghana and Cuba, the Deputy Foreign Affairs Minister thanked the Ambassador Pedro Luis Despaigne Gonzalez for his role in facilitating the successful enrolment of almost 300 students to study medicine in Cuba.

He also acknowledged the Ambassador’s role in the extension of the contract of the Cuban Medical Brigade in Ghana which paved the way for the recent arrival of new doctors in Accra.
