Former Trade and Industry Minister, Alan John Kwadwo Kyerematen, has officially resigned from the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP).

According to the failed NPP’s presidential candidate, his decision to resign from the elephant family takes immediate effect.

It comes barely a month after he withdrew from the November 4, 2023, NPP presidential primaries citing bias and intimidation.

Addressing the media on Monday, September 25, Mr. Kyerematen said he bowed out from the NPP to contest the 2024 presidential election as an independent candidate.

“I believe I have served my country well and intend to continue to do so. On the 5th of January 2023, I resigned honourably from my position as Cabinet Minister and declared my intention in a national broadcast to contest the Presidential primaries of NPP.

“Under the circumstances and given the context provided, I wish to use this platform to announce that I am honourably resigning with immediate effect from the New Patriotic Party to contest for the high office of the President of the Republic of Ghana in the 2024 General Elections, as an Independent Presidential Candidate,” he announced.
