The flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama, emphasized the party’s unwavering commitment to peaceful elections, during his recent address to Church Leaders in Tema, as part of his Building Ghana Agenda Tour in the Greater Accra Region.

Speaking on Tuesday, March 12, 2024, Mahama reiterated the NDC’s stance against violence, affirming that they are dedicated to ensuring a peaceful electoral process come December 7.

Addressing concerns raised by a Church Leader regarding the need for peaceful elections, Mahama assured the audience of the NDC’s peaceful nature, firmly stating, “I can assure you we are a very peaceful party and we do not advocate violence. So, we will do our best to ensure elections are peaceful.”

Moreover, Mahama called upon all stakeholders, particularly the Electoral Commission, to fulfill their roles in guaranteeing a tranquil electoral atmosphere. He stressed the importance of justice alongside peace, urging that those inciting violence should cease their actions to prevent reactionary responses.

Mahama highlighted the significance of neutrality from both the Electoral Commission and security services, emphasizing their duty to uphold the integrity of the electoral process. He expressed confidence that with impartiality and adherence to the rule of law, peaceful elections could be achieved, stating, “If the Electoral Commission is neutral, the security services are neutral, and they owe allegiance only to the state and do the right thing, I’m sure we will have peaceful elections.”
