The Electoral Commission (EC) is set to commence the compilation of a new voters register for the 2020 elections in the last week of June.

The exercise is expected to last for 40 days and will be held across all the country.

At an Inter-Party Advisory Committee (IPAC) held yesterday, the commission outlined that that it has put in place various measures to ensure that the exercise goes ahead smoothly.

NDC however boycotted the IPAC meeting.

The measures include grouping the country into five zones with the registration officers tackling each zone according to stipulated dates and time.

All Ghanaians who would go to registration for the exercise will be required to follow various social distance protocols put in place by the EC to curtail the spread of COVID-19 at registration centres.

The main opposition political party, National Democratic Congress (NDC) have however maintained their opposition against the registration exercise and have accused the EC of being controlled by the ruling NPP.

A leaked letter from the EC however indicate that the NDC have secretly written to the institution to demand guidelines for the registration.
