The Inspector General of Police (IGP) has urged all police commanders in various stations to pay heed to the concerns of their officers when posted to various divisions.
There has been an upsurge in the number of Police officers who are committing suicide in recent times across the country; a report which the Police described as worrying.
The upsurge in the numbers has led to the conclusion that the officers trusted with the gun in the country are not as mentally sound as the public is made to believe.
Commenting on this at a workshop on policing and psychological wellbeing for commanders at the police headquarters, the IGP stated that most officers have various issues from their offices, family and relationships which are not well addressed by the hierarchy.
Mr Oppong Boanuh therefore pleaded wit the junior officers to open up to their superiors so their concerns can be forwarded to the hierarchy for it to be addressed.
To him, it is very regrettable that officers in uniform will commit suicide because of issues which can be easily resolved.
