A Cape Coast Circuit Court has sentenced a farmer to to 20 years imprisonment for defilement at Akwetey Nō2, in the Assin South District of the Central Region
Emmanuel Teye Broni also known as ‘Tukpe’, 32, was jailed on the charges of having unlawful carnal knowledge of a 13-year-old girl.
The convict who had earlier denied committing the crime later confessed before the court and was thereupon sentenced to serve a 20-year jail term.
The prosecutor in this case, Chief Inspector Gilbert Ayongo, briefing the court, affirmed that Mr. Emmanuel Teye, in the later part of 2020 sneaked into the house of the victim and lured her into one of the rooms where he committed the crime.
According to him, the convict is said to have taken advantage of the absence of the victim’s parents and forcibly had sexual intercourse with the teenage girl.
The Prosecutor added that following the incident, parents of the victim reported the case to the police after observing changes in the movement of their daughter and were thus directed to the Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVSSU) at Assin Fosu.
The suspect was subsequently arrested by the Assin Fosu Police and arraigned before court.
