The spokesperson for Ministry of Education has rebutted claims that the government was evasive in meeting the demands of the University Teachers Association of Ghana (UTAG).

According to Kwasi Kwarteng, the government has remained committed to attending to the needs of the lecturers, hence holding meetings with the various stakeholders including his ministry, Finance Ministry, Ministry of Employment and Labour Relations, Fair Wages and Salaries Commission and UTAG, to reach a consensus.

He said the negotiation between the parties involved were not concluded to suggest that the government was avoiding heeding to their call.

“The chairman of the negotiation board, Yaw Adutwum who is Minister for Education actually invited UTAG for another meeting which was supposed to be held 3 pm today. That letter was dated 4th of October and that invitation went a day ahead before UTAG came with the presser”, he said on 3Fm’s Midday news.

His comment comes in the wake of UTAG National Executive Committee’s call on its members to resume their strike action on October 8, 2021, should the government fail to keep their side of the bargain.
