President Akufo-Addo has acknowledged that he erred in the comment regarding the construction of the Cape Coast harbour.
During his tour of the Central Region, he had earlier denied promising the people of Cape Coast a harbour.
This made a lot of residents from the central Region who were anticipating a harbour unhappy.
Speaking on the Kokrokoo Morning Show on Accra-based Peace FM, the president said that “I made a mistake, let me just confess it”.
According to the president he saw a page which spoke about a landing site, whose construction is expected to commence next year, in the party’s 2020 manifesto but failed to go any further thus, the error.
The president further noted that despite the mistake, there is the need to rethink a lot of things in terms of value for money for the project.
“But in any event, even with the mistake I think still, we have to rethink a lot of things. We can’t have a harbour in Elmina… We have a harbour in Elmina which is being developed right now, obviously Takoradi, Elmina, then we have another one projected for Cape Coast before we go further down the road”.
He added that, “I think some rethinking has to go on for us to be able to find what is the value for money arrangements, but it was a mistake…”.
While admitting that he needs to apologise to the people of Cape Coast and Central Region as a whole, he emphasized that “presidents are humans after all, we are not supermen. We make mistakes.”
