A Defence and Strategic Security Operations Consultant, Professor Larry Gbevlo-Lartey, has advised aides to President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to seek guidance in their travel arrangements for the statesman.
Sitting presidents including Nana Akufo-Addo do embark on local and inner city, regional and international journeys for various purposesâofficial and unofficial.
Regardless of the type of trip the president may embark on, Prof. Gbevlo-Lartey, a former National Security Coordinator, posits that the security of the statesman is crucial in the arrangements.
That said, the Presidentâs movements are sometimes made public prior to his departure, especially for international travels but the security consultant believes there are more practical approaches to dealing with the arrangements for security reasons.
âI seriously believe it’s not possible to keep all the president visits, and movements secret, and to the chest of national security operatives, particularly the international ones, which involves brief handing over ceremonies in line with statutory democratic requirements which is expected to strictly follow implementation methodologies that is public in nature.
âBest judgement is required, confidentiality of actual internal operations is key for safety, democratic principles are greatly important, and national security and sovereignty is crucial in the face of global geopolitics and safety of VIPs and VVIPsâ he said.
Prof. Gbevlo in this regard said the aides should seek for professional advice.
