The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has urged the Inspector General of Police (IGP), to work towards removing from office recalcitrant personnel who bring the name of the Police Service to disrepute.
According to the Ashanti kingdom overlord, “while there are very good police officers, there are few others who indulge in criminal activities.”
He added, “The bad ones have brought the name of the police service into disrepute. They use the ammunition given to them to engage in criminal activities. Ensure that this is addressed”, he urged.
Otumfuo Osei Tutu II made the call when the IGP paid a courtesy call on him during his tour of the Ashanti Region.
Dr. Akuffo Dampare on his part assured that his administration is committed to reforming and strengthening the foundation of the law enforcement agency to restore its good name.
“with God on our side, we want to ensure that whoever succeeds this administration will have a better police service to work with.
“We want it to be better because if next administration has a better understaning of the job, whatever we have started will be continued by them.
“We are thus praying to God to help us do better than our predecessors such that the police can redeem its image”, said the IGP.
The Police Administration has in recent times received accolades following efforts it has mustered towards restoring law and order in the jurisdiction typified by the fight against indiscipline among road users and the deployment of more officers to patrol communities to protect lives and properties.
