The #FixTheCountry Movement has turned down the National Democratic Congress (NDC) offer to join them in a scheduled demonstration against the e-levy slated for Thursday, February 10.

A statement from the Movement indicated that the NDC has called on them to be part of their protest against the controversial electronic transactions levy which has drawn battle lines between the NPP and the NDC.

However, in a response to the NDC’s invitation, #FixTheCountry Movement said “we think that the time has come for us to build a multi-sectoral and non-partisan coalition against the E-Levy.”

“#FixTheCountry is committed to leading that process,, ” it added.

The statement further encouraged all actors and political parties, including the NDC to continue to oppose the E-Levy vigorously, including by holding the front of the opposition with their representatives in Parliament.

The movement expressed believe that the NDC can effectively cripple the Government’s agenda in Parliament, if they maintain their commitment to the course, without settling or negotiating away the people’s opposition to the levy.

Describing the levy as “both immoral and inconsiderate”, they also sympathized with the public that the e-levy will impoverish Ghanaians, in particular those who fall within the poorest segments of our society.

Despite declining the NDC’s invitation, the movement invited the NDC party leadership to throw their support behind #FixTheCountry calls for A New Constitution for A New Generation.
