Two persons are reported dead after a trailer crushed into a Toyota Hiace a section on the road at Gomoa Bewadze in the Central Region.
According to Angel News sources, the trailer with registration number GM 6194 – 14, was heading to Cape Coast from Kasoa, while the Toyota Hiace was heading towards the same direction.
Three other victims on board the Toyota Hiace including a fire officer, sustained severe injuries and are currently receiving treatment at the Winneba Trauma and Specialist Hospital.
Meanwhile, the fire officer has been treated and discharge while the rest are still on admission.
DO3 Kwesi Hughes, the Municipal Fire Commander for Winneba who visited the crime scene, attributed the accident to wrongful overtaking.
“We had a call from a driver that an accident had happened on the Gomoa Bewadze road so as usual, we rushed to the scene and noted that the trailer had crashed into the Toyota Hiace.
“Our interrogation with an eyewitness indicated that, driver of the trailer who was over speeding, attempted an overtaking in a curve leading to the accident.
“We conducted a rescue and we were able to rescue the driver but the two passengers in the Toyota Hiace died on the spot. Also, one of the pedestrians and other two persons on board were injured in the process,” he said.
The Municipal Fire Commander h,owever, observed that most of road accidents are attributed to the attitudes of some drivers, citing tiredness, speeding, poor maintenance of vehicles or drink driving.
DO3 Kwesi Hughes believes attitudinal changes to these behaviors will help reduce the frequency of road accidents in the country.
He also called on passengers to cultivate the habit of calling drivers to order,when necessary, to save lives.
