The Ghana Police Service has assured the general public that it is working to make sure that law and order is restored in Nkoranza and its environs in the Nkoranza South Municipality.
The police said as part of ensuring that, high-profile security officers led by COP Christian Tetteh Yohuno who is the Director-General, Administration of Ghana Police, have been deployed to the area to affirm control of the security on the grounds.
This came after some irate youth of the area on Tuesday, May 17, 2022, clashed with policemen which led to the death of one person and injured five others who are currently on admission at the St. Theresa’s Hospital at Nkoranza.
Their action was to allegedly seek justice for the late Albert Donkor who was reportedly picked up at his mother’s residence at Kasadjan in the Nkoranza Municipality by a police team on Monday, April 25th on suspicion of being involved in a robbery operation on the Nkoranza-Kintampo road.
However, a statement issued by the police on Sunday, May 22, noted that calm has been restored in the area, adding that all those who sustained various injuries are now in stable condition.
As part of the investigations, “police forensic team including ballistic experts have been deployed” to assist.
To maintain law and order, “all the suspects arrested in connection with the disturbances have been put before the court and remanded into lawful custody. we are pursuing others who have been identified for their involvement in the violent attacks and those who escaped from lawful custody, to bring them to face justice”.
The police further warned those who are capitalising on the crisis for their interest to desist from the practice.
