The Special Prosecutor, Kissi Agyabeng, has frozen all assets belonging to the late Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Forestry Commission, Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie, popularly called Sir John.
The move to freeze all properties forms part of investigations into the acquisition of state lands and properties that were bequeathed to some relatives of Sir John in his will which sparked a public uproar after it went viral on social media.
This comes after the Office of the Special Prosecutor announced in a press statement issued on Thursday, May 26 that it has commenced investigations into the alleged ‘will of Sir John’.
The Lands Ministry also announced that it would look into the will especially regarding the said lands in the Achimota Forest Reserve and the Sakumono Ramsar site.
Meanwhile, some Civil Society Organisations including Occupy Ghana have called on state institutions to probe the said will especially the lands and properties deemed to be state properties.
The Ga Mantse has also asked government to rescind its decision to declassify the Achimota forest.
