A self-service sim card re-registration app will be launched on Tuesday, August 2, 2022, the Minister for Communications, Ursula Owusu-Ekuful has announced.
According to the minister, the app will assist the general public to re-register their sim cards in their comfort zones without going through the challenges of queuing at the exercise centers.
Briefing the press on Sunday afternoon in Accra, Ursula Owusu-Ekuful said the app will be available for downloads on both android and IOS this week barring any unforeseen circumstances after a successful launch.
This, she explained, that each registration made through the app will be subjected to a GH₵5 surcharge.
“The Self-Service Sim Registration App will be ready for commercial launch on Tuesday 2nd August as Virtual Private Network (VPN) connectivity and Application Programming Interface (API) integration with all MNOs was only completed this weekend due to unavoidable circumstances.”
The app when completed, the minister said, adequate time will also be required for “public education on the use of Self-Service Sim Registration App.”
“The SIM Registration App will be available for download on both android and IOS this week barring any unforeseen circumstances. Each registration via the app will be subject to a 5 cedis surcharge,” Ursula Owusu-Ekuful.
The decision she indicated became necessary following the challenges facing the many Ghanaians during the reregistration exercise. Also Millions of the general public are yet to receive their Ghana cards which will enable them do the registration.
She also served noticed that non-Ghanaian residents have up till the end of the year to ensure they use their passports to complete their registration because failure to do so have implications.
“Non-resident Ghanaians who do not have the Ghana card can use their passports to complete the process but will be required to update their details with the Ghana card once they acquire it. They have up till December 2022 to do so. I urge them to comply with these directives and to contact the NCA if they have any peculiar challenges.
“Ghanaians on official assignment outside the country or students on scholarships who cannot acquire the Ghana card by December should contact the NCA,” the minister advised.
To ensure every Ghanaian is involved in the exercise the deadline has been extended to September, 30, 2022.
