Vice-President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has congratulated Kenya’s new president-elect William Samoei Ruto, on his victory following the just ended general elections.
William Ruto emerged victorious after a keen contest with the main rival Raila Odinga Ruto and managed to pull 50.5% of the vote on the August 9, 2022, elections.
However, Raila Odinga among some other persons claimed there were some manipulations with the outcome of the results and cited ‘tampering with results forms’ as part of the malpractices.
They filed petitions and contested the outcome of the polls where they sought re-election.
But Kenya’s Supreme Court after sitting on the case dismissed all eight petitions filed against William Ruto and Chief Justice Martha Koome ruled that the 55-year-old was legitimately elected as president.
He is expected to be sworn in as Kenya’s fifth president in the coming week.
Dr Bawumia in a Facebook post said he prayed for God’s continuous guidance for Ruto as he is set to take over from outgoing President of the country, Uhuru Kenyatta.
“I congratulate Vice President of the Republic of Kenya, William Samoei Ruto, on being affirmed by the Supreme Court of Kenya as the President-elect of the country.
“All the best as you take over the baton to serve your beloved Kenya. May God continue to guide your steps,” the Vice president Dr Bawumia added.
