Residents of Odado-Pumpside in the Assin Fosu Municipality of the Central Region are living in apprehension over the rampant abduction cases in the area.
The latest of the incidents is the alleged attempted abduction of a 13-year-old girl who was returning home from the market after she was sent to sell pure water.
The father of the victim, Freeman Ahiadzi, narrated that he received a distress call around 6:00pm on Sunday, February 5, 2023, that her daughter was in a coma with her hands tied and also strangled with a rope.
He thus rushed to the scene only to see her weak daughter in despondence before being sent to the St. Francis Xavier Hospital in Assin Fosu for medical attention.
A team of police officers led by the Divisional Crime Officer, Superintendent Daniel Kwabena Dakoh visited the victim at the hospital and has since launched an investigation into the matter.
The residents have expressed their concern over the incidents and want the police administration to as a matter of urgency tighten the security ranks to curb the situation to enable them to go about their normal duties.
“Just recently, a 12-year-old girl was kidnapped by an unknown person in a similar circumstance, perpetrators demanded ten thousand cedis for her release.
“So, this is not the first time we are witnessing such an incident, that is why we are calling on the police to expedite investigations and intensify police patrol to deter perpetrators,” the residents complained.
A female resident “Indeed the matter has brought some fear and panic on us because we are scared to send our daughters on errands. We [parents] are pleading on authorities to come to our aid.”
