The Chief Justice, Justice Anin Yeboah, has declared Monday 13th to Friday 17th March 2023 as an Alternate Dispute Resolution (ADR) week, a communique by the Judicial Service says.
This means within the specified period, the general public, particularly the poor and vulnerable, and court users can access some 33 Circuit Courts and 99 District Courts across the country to seek justice under the court system.
The weeklong event which will be observed under theme “Improving access to justice in a post-pandemic through the use of ADR” is part of the Judicial Service’s adjudication process dubbed “Court-Connected ADR”.
According to the statement issued on March 8, 2023, “the aim of the programme [Court-Connected ADR] is to ensure that access to justice in Ghana is made easier, cheaper, non-adversarial, expeditious and flexible to all, particularly the poor and vulnerable”.
As such, Chief Justice Anin Yeboah in a policy directive on the Court-Connected ADR, “instituted the ADR week in every Legal Year Term to give parties opportunity to settle their cases through mediation”.
The ADR week will also help the Judicial Service to “run programmes and activities to create awareness on the availability of ADR as a compliment to the adjudication process in the court”.
The general public is thus entreated to take advantage of the period to address their cases under the court system.
