Award-winning musician and songwriter Martin King Arthur popularly known as Kofi Kinaata, has narrated how he nearly ended up becoming a pitch invader in Ghana’s football history in the just-ended 2022/23 Betpawa Premier League.
According to the Western region-based artiste, he was just an inch away from invading the Akoon Park on Sunday, June 11, 2023, during Medeama SC’s game against Tamale City which won them a historic league title.
The Mauve and Yellow side were formally crowned champions when they hammered their opponent in an emphatic 3-0 scoreline to achieve the feat. The results also sent the Tamale outfit to relegation.
The game which was crucial to the champions drew indigenes of the region to the stadium which included the ‘Things Fall Apart’ hitmaker.
Taking to social media in a congratulatory message for the Ghanaian Champions, Kofi Kinaata said he became so emotional whiles watching the lads from the stands and had to control his emotions from doing the unthinkable.
He thus acknowledged the services of fellow Effiakuma boys, Ishmeal Hammond and Nurudeen Abdulai [players], who were part of the history-making team.
Shouts to my Effiakuma brothers; Ishmeal Hammond and Nurudeen Abdulai.. I couldn’t hold my excitement watching them play the finals, I nearly invaded the pitch. 🥰🤣 Congrats to @MedeamaSC for winning Ghana Premier League Cup. Western Region is proud of you. 👏🏾🤝🏾🙌🏾🔥 #TeamMooove pic.twitter.com/AJSFDEtu0z

Kinaata further congratulated team Medeama SC for winning the 2022/23 Ghana Premier League, becoming the only team after Sekondi Hasaacas in 1977 to win the topflight trophy.
As the newly crowned champions, the Tarkwa-based club will represent Ghana in next season’s CAF Champions League, provided they fulfil the requirements set by the Confederation of African Football.
Medeama’s last participation in continental competition was 2016 following the first which came in 2014 when they participated in the CAF Confederation Cup campaign.
