A private legal practitioner, Lawyer Kwame Adofoh has said that the husband of embattled former Minister of Sanitation and Water Resources, Cecilia Dapaah, Daniel Osei Kuffour is only assisting the police in its investigations nto corruption and corruption-related offences following publications on some monies allegedly stolen from their home.
Reports that made rounds indicated that the architect has been placed under house arrest by the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) as part of investigations into the case.
This new information was provided in court when the office of the special prosecutor moved its application for confirmation of an order to freeze the bank accounts of Cecilia Dapaah and seize some $590,000 and GHC 2,730,000 found at her house in Abelemkpe.
But the judge presiding over the case queried why Cecilia Dapaah is the only person being investigated when the alleged tainted money was found in her matrimonial home.
Dr. Isidore Tufour who is the Director of Prosecutions at the Office of the Special Prosecutor, however, responded that Cecilia Dapaah’s husband has also been placed under arrest.
Explaining the reason for the OSP’s decision, Lawyer Adofo said he was of the firmest conviction that the husband as a resident in the house is a person of interest to the OSP hence his arrest.
“Drivers are also arrested as part of investigations into cases of suspected contrabands in their vehicles being carried by passengers…it is therefore the same process the OSP is following…,” he explained on Angel Morning Show on Friday.
He further stated that the OSP has the powers to invite or arrest anyone he thinks can help with investigations into the case.
