The Domestic Violence and Victims Support Unit [DOVVSU] of the Ghana Police Service, circuit court presided over by Kwabena Kodua Obiri Yeboah, has sentenced a 41-year-old Godwin Attah to seven years in imprisonment for defilement.
The Complainant in the case is Madam Agyapong a Trader and the mother of victim who is 15 years, while the accused person is a Mason and stepfather to the victim.
Madam Agyapong and the accused person together with their four children including the victim, lived in the same room in an uncompleted building at Old Bortianor Ajasco Top.
Narrating the facts of the case to the court, Detective Chief Inspector Simon Tekpertey told the court on August 12, 2023, at about 9:00pm, the accused person demanded to have sexual intercourse with the complainant but she turned him down with the reason that she was in her menstrual period.
After two days, at about 4:00am, the she woke up and asked the her daughter to go and set fire to heat water for her and her younger siblings to bath for school.
Agyapong later realised it was too early for the teenage girl to go out so she told her to wait for a while as she was preparing to go to the road side to sell as usual.
The complainant left home leaving the victim and her three younger siblings with the accused person in the room.
The accused person took advantage of the complainant’s absence and the other sibling sleeping and called the victim to come and sleep beside him on their double bed mattress which she obliged.
Detective Chief Inspector Teperkery said the barbaric act continued for the second time after which the accused person mixed salt with hot water and made the victim to sit on it saying she might have sustained injuries.
The accused person then warned the victim not to inform the mother about the incident.
The victim, who was not happy with what the step father had done on the second time, went to her mother by the roadside where she sells.
