Former Member of Parliament (MP) for La-Dadekotopon, Nii Amasah Namoale, has expressed disappointment in Minister for Information, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah over his statement on the invasion of United Television (UTV) by some youth of the New Patriotic Party.
The former lawmaker wondered why the minister in his statement on the incident failed to directly condemn the violent actions of the party youth on the media organisation.
“The Ministry wishes to encourage the media, especially broadcast media show hosts and panelists, to do their outmost best to help promote national cohesion even as they exercise their fundamental freedom,” parts of the Information Minister’s statements read.
Speaking on Angel Morning Show on Monday, the former NDC MP said Mr Nkrumah demonstrated through the conclusion of the statement that the NPP supports media intolerance in the country.
“Look, the NPP in a scheme was quick in shielding the violent act through the statement they issued to disassociate themselves from the incident but let me tell you that every coming event casts its shadows so therefore when the NPP had previously written to the management of UTV threatening them over their content on the said show, indirectly it was paving the way for these youth to invade the station.
“See, the last paragraph of the statement issued by Oppong Nkrumah is rather increasing media intolerance,” the NDC member said.
A passionate Nii Amasah Namoale called out the Ofoase Ayirebi MP for neglecting his responsibilities as Information Minister and resorting to schooling media practitioners on contents they can broadcast.
