Residents of New Jerusalem a suburb of the Fanteakwa North District in Eastern Region have accused the government of neglecting them in its supportive initiative for victims of the Akosombo Dam Spillage.
According to them, they have greatly been affected by the spillage which has displaced many homes.
New Jerusalem community and its surrounding environment located at the Fanteakwa North and Kwahu Afram Plains border was not exempted from the affected areas.
However, some community members expressing their disappointment said the government has not been fair in providing relief to victims in parts of the affected areas in the country.
“We send our regards to President Akufo-Addo, but if you critically look at this video, you will see the extent to which the flood has destroyed our community, displacing many who are now homeless, and we desperately need help to be able to survive this storm,” they complained.
A resident added that government and the entire country has been focusing only on the affected communities in the Lower Volta Basin while they have been left to their fate.
“We need shelter, and we are pleading with the government and Ghanaians in general, to come to our aid because it seems we are the only people who have been affected by the spillage but receive no help like the other communities.”
