A former Chairman of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Joseph Kobina Ade-Coker, has emphasised the need for a collective effort for the country’s football growth and success.

He said Ghana needs a holistic approach to its football, shedding light on the crucial elements of the direction of the sport and the properly laid down structures.

According to him, reconsidering how football is governed under the incumbent leadership of the Ghana Football Association is the ideal way.

Mr Ade-Coker’s comment follows the Black Stars’ shambolic display in the ongoing 2023 AFCON in Ivory Coast, where they lost to Cape Verde by 2-1 in her group opener.

Sharing his frustration, the former Greater Accra Regional Chairman of the National Democratic Congress ((NDC) said the too many disgraces of the nation through football must be looked at and addressed.

“When we come home this time, there should be a holistic discussion on the way and direction we want our football to head because in the last AFCON (2021), the same abysmal performance was exhibited and the same struggles when playing World Cup qualifiers,” Chairman Ade-Coker said.

Setting the tone for discussion on the deteriorating sports of the country, particularly football, the experienced football administrator expressed that the development is no longer funny.

“…It cannot continue like that, so the entire nation should sit down and have a deep reasoning of the way forward because it is becoming too disgraceful,” he added.

The politician cum football administrator, on that score, urged the leadership of the GFA to engage knowledgeable persons with technical know-how like himself to find a lasting solution to the menace.
