Former President John Dramani Mahama has stated that the lack of quality road network for people living in the Krobo enclave is a result of the continues reject of the people by the ruling New Patriotic Party ( NPP) government.
According to the 2024 Presidential Candidate for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), this is perceived from the ruling party’s discrimination to the area known to be stronghold of the opposition party.
Mr. Mahama addressing party faithfuls at Agormanya during his day one tour of the Eastern Region on Tuesday January 30, 2024, said he is not surprised over the development because Krobos do not vote for the NPP.
He asserted further that President Akufo-Addo’s recent remarks on developmental issues in Mepe in the Volta Region and Ekumfi in the Central Region corroborates his point.
“I was saddened when I drove on the road today but I am not surprised because this President has decided not to develop parts of the country where his party doesn’t get votes. Because he went to Mepe during the flood disaster and said he came because he is President because the people don’t vote for him.
“A President should not talk like that. Recently, the people of Ekumfi visited him and they appealed for development only for President Akufo Addo to tell them they voted against his MP. So I am not surprised he has neglected Krobo people because everybody knows your political affiliation. That is why for the past 8 years your roads have been left to deteriorate,” he said.
He assured the people that the next NDC government will ensure they have their fair share of the national cake and address the problem of deplorable roads in the area.
The former presidents comment was in response to calls from Krobo traditional authorities over the bad roads in the area.
