Communication team member for Movement For Change, Solomon Owusu, has criticized the NDC’s tenure from 2009 to 2017, stating that they had no concrete plans while in power.

Owusu argues that the NDC acts as though they have never been in power, attempting to distance themselves from Ghana’s ongoing issues.

In an interview on the Angel Morning Show (AMS) on May 21, 2024, he pointed out the current underperformance of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), but stressed that the NDC also failed to provide good governance, which undermines their credibility.

“He has lamented about Ghana’s problems and has deliberately excluded the NDC from the root cause of the problems,” Owusu stated.

He highlighted that before the NDC took power in 2009, the exchange rate was stable with one dollar equaling one cedi. Additionally, he credited former President Kuffour with securing Ghana’s first oil field, a discovery that spurred a 14% economic growth in 2011. However, Owusu pointed out that the economy subsequently crashed, leading to widespread hardship and the significant power crisis known as “dumsor.”

“Why should an economy which was growing by 14% suddenly crash?” he questioned. “The NDC did not have any strategic plans to solve Ghana’s problems and should therefore not exempt themselves from Ghana’s issues,” he added.
