Black Stars captain, Andre Dede Ayew, has been dropped from the team’s squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Mali and the Central African Republic (CAR).
Coach Otto Addo addressed the press in a conference on Wednesday morning following the announcement of his squad for the fixtures scheduled for next month.
Andre Ayew, 34, was omitted from the 32-man squad despite having a good season with French Ligue 1 side La Havre.
The former Olympic Marseille and West Ham United player scored six goals in 20 matches in all competitions for his club.
Coach Otto Addo, explaining the reason for dropping the captain player, said he had a conversation with him before the decision and thus he would not love to detail their conversation let alone publicising it.
Inaki Williams who won the Best African Player accolade in the Spanish League in the just-ended season, was also left out of the squad including other players such as Dennis Odoi, Baba Iddrisu, Majeed Ashimeru, Joseph Paintsil, and Daniel Amartey.
Ghana, the four-time African champions are 4th in Group I, having lost to Comoros and a narrow win over Madagascar. The team will hope for a better result in the double header to boost their chances of qualifying.
