An aspirant in the upcoming 2024 Presidential election, Nana Kwame Bediako popularly known as ‘Cheddar’, says industrial scale irrigation is the only panacea to the illegal mining menace facing the country.

Speaking Sunday, September 1, 2024, during his 12-point policy launch ahead of the December 7, presidential and parliamentary polls, Cheddar says the nation is struggling to win the fight against illegal mining because water bodies are neglected.

“When your waters are neglected and abandoned, why wouldn’t they be polluted,” he posed.

“The future of agriculture depends on our water bodies,” he added.

According to the presidential hopeful, if elected, his administration will institute policies that yield support for the Eastern Region and some regions in the southern, to support agriculture.

“This will Eradicate illegal mining, as our waters are an important part of feeding the country,” he stated.

Cheddar pledged further to maximise the Volta Lake, which is the largest man-made lake in the world, for the purposes of economic advancement.
