I understand hardship because I have experienced it – Bawumia
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

The presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has said his empathy for the less privileged comes from his personal experiences of hardship, having once struggled to make ends meet.

Dr. Bawumia shared that he had previously worked as a taxi driver, cleaner, farm labourer, and a day labourer, which gave him a deep understanding of the difficulties many Ghanaians face.

In response to a question in Pidgin from Shatta Wale during an interaction with members of the creative arts industry on Wednesday night, the Vice President expressed that his main goal in politics is to create opportunities for all, particularly those who are struggling.

Highlighting his efforts to support the less privileged, Dr. Bawumia mentioned his role as a patron of Lepers Aid Ghana, an NGO that provides aid to individuals affected by leprosy.

He noted that he dines and spends time with people whom society often shuns.

Speaking in Pidgin, he said, “my heart dey the street,” meaning he deeply cares about the plight of the ordinary people on the streets.
