Ghana’s Black Stars have dropped three spots in the latest FIFA World Rankings released on Thursday, October 24, following the team’s poor performances in their recent double header in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers.
They dropped to 73rd from 70th position in the latest release of the rankings after their continuous slide in the FIFA Men’s Rankings.
It is linked to the team’s failure to secure a significant victory against Sudan in its double-header – a draw and defeat respectively.
In the August rankings, Ghana ranked 70th in the world and 14th in Africa but after losing 2-0 to Sudan and drawing goalless with Sudan in a 2025 AFCON, the Black Stars have dropped three places in the world rankings.
Morocco is currently ranked 13th in the world, followed by Senegal (20th), Egypt (30th), Nigeria (36th), Algeria (37th), Côte d’Ivoire (40th), Tunisia (47th), Cameroon (49th), Mali (54th), Congo Democratic Republic (57th), South Africa (60th), Burkina Faso (62nd), Cape Verde (72nd), and Ghana (73rd) globally.
In Africa, Morocco has risen to the top spot, with Senegal dropping to second. Egypt, Côte d’Ivoire, and Tunisia complete the top five.
Sudan moved 10 spots to rank 110th in the world rankings after impressing against Ghana; coached by Ghanaian coach James Kwasi Appiah, they are on the verge of securing a qualification berth to next year’s AFCON in Morocco.
