The 2024 Presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has assured that he will prioritize the interests of the business community when he is elected President.
Addressing a mini rally in Okaishie in the Odododiodio Constituency in the Greater Accra Region as part of his tour of various markets in the region, Dr Bawumia said he will put in place several policies that will remove bottle necks hampering business growth in Ghana.
These policies, he said, include the introduction of a flat tax regime in Ghana.
“I will take care of the needs of the business community because Bawumia means business. I will introduce a new tax regime to end the misunderstandings between traders and GRA. I will introduce the flat tax system which will commence in 2025, but I will first implement tax amnesty. All businesses, all individuals will have a tax amnesty to start with…I will by this cancel all taxes that everyone owes the GRA,” he said.
An enthusiastic Bawumia also assured businessmen and women in the country that he will introduce a flat rate scheme at the harbours to ensure that traders pay flat taxes at the ports.
“Ghana’s import duty will not be higher than Togo’s import duty. It will be lower or the same as that of Togo. This will ensure that the import duties become affordable for all…,” he said.
Empowering women in business, Dr Bawumia continued is also a major priority of his government hence his decision to introduce a fund which will support female traders in the country.
“We will introduce Women’s Trade Empowerment Fund which will give women soft loans to do business…. all you will need to access this loan is your Ghana card…,” he stated.
The Vice President who has been touring the 16 regions to share his vision for the country has been attracting the support of many Ghanaian voters.
He had prior to meeting the traders met with their leadership and the chiefs of Okaishie to propagate his vision for the Ghana when elected on 7th December 2024.
