Seasoned Broadcast journalist with the Angel Broadcasting Network (ABN), Kwadwo Dickson, has cautioned media practitioners to be circumspect in their reportage in the upcoming December 2024 general elections.
According to the seasoned Broadcaster, the media should be careful with their reportage in the coming exercise; both the special voting and general elections scheduled for December 2 and 7, respectively.
Efiewura as known in the media space stated that most Ghanaians depend on the media for information, therefore, their actions and inactions will have an impact on the public whether positive or negative.
The Angel 102.9 FM General Manager advised the media to avoid sensationalism on the election day but only disseminate the right information because, their actions can cause violence during and after.
“A journalist can stand somewhere and say, they’ve beaten someone, while they’ve not beaten anyone, or when there is a misunderstanding between either the New Patriotic Party (NPP) or the National Democratic Congress (NDC), and because you are either from the NPP or the NDC, you will not report on the right information.
“But what you believe is what you want the audience to hear or what you will report on, and this can cause chaos in the country,” Kwadwo Dickson said on Wednesday, November 27, during a press briefing at Obra Sports at a short event to celebrate Barima David Opei, who completed a 90-hour peace walk from Sankore to Accra.
Kwadwo Dickson underlines that as the country seeks to achieve an incident-free electoral process, it is paramount that media practitioners carry out their work on fairgrounds.
