Flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama, has criticized the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government for mismanaging the $11.5 billion it borrowed, claiming he could have transformed Ghana into a developed nation like Dubai with such resources.

According to Mahama, the incumbent government borrowed $11.5 billion within five years but failed to deliver on their promises to develop the country.

During a meeting with Islamic clerics in Kumasi, Mahama stated that during his four-year tenure as President, he borrowed only $3.5 billion to fund major projects such as the harbor, Terminal 3 at the Kotoka International Airport, and other infrastructural developments.

He added, “If I were the one who borrowed that $11.5 billion, I would have turned Ghana into Dubai.”

Mahama further emphasized that the NDC has always prioritized the welfare of Muslims. He noted that before the Chief Imam presented a letter of requests during the party’s manifesto preparation, many of those requests had already been included. He assured the Islamic clerics that an NDC government would fulfill the needs of Muslims.

He pledged to transform the Hajj Village, currently built with tents, into a permanent structure to better serve the Muslim community.

Mahama also accused the NPP of allegedly selling the land designated for the Hajj Village.
