The majority in Parliament has accused former Minister for National Security Kofi Totobi Quakyi and former National Security Coordinator Col. (Rtd.) Larry Gbevlo-Lartey of orchestrating post-election violence allegedly linked to the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
In a press briefing, Deputy Majority Leader Patricia Appiagyei claimed the alleged acts of violence, including attacks on government appointees and state institutions, were part of a coordinated effort by NDC elements following the 2024 General Elections.
The allegations follow the announcement of Quakyi and Gbevlo-Lartey as members of an interim team overseeing national security under President-elect John Dramani Mahama.
Madam Patricia Appiagyei warned that these incidents pose a significant threat to public safety, stating:
“We have received reliable intelligence indicating that acts of violence and thuggery are being orchestrated by certain elements of the NDC leadership. Mr. Totobi Quakyi and Col. (Rtd.) Larry Gbevlo-Lartey are key leaders behind these NDC thugs, inspiring them to violence against innocent Ghanaians. This raises serious national security concerns.”
She urged citizens to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to law enforcement agencies.
Majority Chief Whip Frank Annoh-Dompreh called on President-elect Mahama to intervene decisively to end the violence.
He expressed concern over reports of hooliganism linked to NDC supporters and called for accountability:
“We hope the President-elect will show leadership. If they do not, we will advise ourselves and take all necessary legal steps to ensure the safety of Ghanaians.”
