President John Dramani Mahama says his administration will construct a befitting hospital for the people of Yendi to facilitate delivery of quality healthcare in the enclave.
Addressing Chiefs and Elders at Gbewaa Palace in Yendi, he affirmed his administration’s commitment to the health sector, particularly improving abandoned health projects and building modern new ones.
“Ndan Yaa Naa, the healthcare, one of the projects that has been dear to your heart that has been abandoned for so many years is the Yendi Hospital. I can assure you that we are going to achieve that project and build a modern health facility here in Yendi.
“In addition, we intend to upgrade the old Tamale Central Hospital in order to ease the pressure on the Tamale Teaching Hospital. We’re going to upgrade both the Tamale Municipal Hospital and the Tamale Central Hospital,” he explained.
President Mahama pledged this on Saturday, March 22, 2025, during his ‘Thank You’ tour of the Northern Region, where he paid a courtesy call on Yaa-Naa, Naa Abukari II, the Overlord of Dagbon.
President Mahama’s entourage included Executive Secretary to the President, Dr. Callistus Mahama; Education Minister, Haruna Iddrisu; Transport Minister, Joseph Nikpe; Deputy Roads and Highways Minister, Alhassan Suhuyini; Northern Regional Minister, Ali Adolf; and others.
Mr. Mahama explained that the move will “improve healthcare for the people of the Northern Region” and emphasized his focus on enhancing Ghana’s health sector.
