President John Dramani Mahama has received three separate petitions calling for the removal of the Chief Justice, Gertrude Sackey Torkonoo, according to an official statement from the Presidency.
The petitions, submitted by various individuals, have been forwarded to the Council of State to initiate the constitutional consultation process outlined in Article 146 of the 1992 Constitution.
In a statement issued by Spokesperson to the President, Felix Kwakye Ofosu on March 25, 2025, the government emphasized that it is following due process in handling the petitions.
While the specific allegations or concerns leading to the petitions remain undisclosed, the move signals a potential constitutional process that could have significant implications for the judiciary.
