Ghana legend, Rev. Osei Kofi honoured in Spain

Spanish giants, Real Madrid, in conjunction with La Liga outfit, Leganes, have honoured Ghana legend, Rev Osei Kofi in Spain for his impacts made on football in the 60s.

After his thrilling football career, winning two AFCONS for Ghana, winning laurels with Ghanaian giants Asante Kotoko, Spanish giants, Real Madrid and Leganes made it a great deal to honour such a personality.

In an exclusive chat with the son of Rev. Osei Kofi, Emmanuel Osei Yaw revealed to Angel Sports that, Leganes recognise his father as a football icon in Africa.

“Madrid and Leganes believe that Rev. Osei Kofi has been impactful to the history of African Football. In 1962, Real Madrid played Ghana in Accra Sports Stadium in a friendly game, and Rev Osei Kofi was in his element and won the hearts of the Spaniards as the game ended 3-3

“So after a thorough check, the prior owners of Leganés FC, Victoria Pavón and Felipe Moreno in collaboration with Real Madrid, decided to honour the legend” he said.

Rev Osei Kofi was invited to Spain to watch La Liga clash between Real Madrid and Leganes which was played on the night of Saturday, March 29, 2025, at the Santiago Bernabeu which ended in a 3-2 win for the home team.

Ahead of that game, Real Madrid played Real Murcia in a friendly game in honour of Rev Osei Kofi at the Alfredo Di Stefano Stadium.

Before the game, former Leganés FC owners Victoria Pavón and Felipe Moreno had a lunch with Rev Osei Kofi, his management team, ie including his son, Emmanuel Osei Yaw, who is also a former footballer.

Rev. Osei Kofi is likely to touch down in Ghana in the coming days and will meet the press to disclose the visit to Spain and the honour by Real Madrid and Leganes.
