Nigerian boxer, Gabriel Oluwasegun Olanrewaju, reportedly collapsed during a bout on Saturday night, March 29, 2025, at the Bukom Boxing Arena in Accra, Ghana

He was fighting Ghanaian boxer, John Mbanugu, in an undercard bout of Ghana’s Professional Boxing League (GPBL) when the incident occurred.

According to a video circulating on social media, the Nigerian boxer collapsed in the third round of the bout after receiving a punch from his opponent.

His unresponsiveness in the ring prompted the referee to call the medical team for urgent assistance, and he was rushed to Korle Bu Teaching Hospital.

Though widespread reports on social media says the boxer succumbed to his conditions, others believe otherwise.

At the time of filing this report, the condition of the Nigerian boxer remains unknown, pending an official statement from the Ghana Boxing Authority (GBA).

Olanrewaju last fought on December 24, 2024, against Idowu Raheed at Campos Mini Stadium in Lagos.
