The Director of Operations of the Progressive People’s Party (PPP), Divine Nkrumah, has urged the government to remain committed to its promise to tackle illegal mining, popularly known as ‘galamsey’.
He referred to the pledges the government made while in opposition, aimed at fighting the galamsey menace.
According to Mr. Nkrumah, the government must ensure that it stays true to its word and delivers on its promises.
“The NDC government promised to solve galamsey issues. We want them to stick to those promises because it is causing destruction,” he told Saddick Adams on the Angel Morning Show on Wednesday, April 23, 2025.
He stressed that his call was motivated by the devastating impact illegal mining has had on the environment, which he believes requires urgent action.
Despite his appeal to the government, Mr. Nkrumah also urged Ghanaians to be patient, acknowledging the administration’s intention to protect the environment from further harm.
He noted that the current government had only recently assumed office, and therefore deserved some time to act, though it must still be held accountable for its commitments.
“…But I think that we should give them some time,” he appealed.
