Ghana’s two major political parties – the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and New Patriotic Party (NPP) have been accused of manipulating each other’s shortcomings as a shortcut to power.

The accuser, Akwasi Addai Odike, Presidential hopeful and leader of the Union Government lashed out at both parties of leaning on failures of each other for electoral victory.

Speaking on Angel Morning Show on Monday, July 21, 2025, Odike claimed that both the NDC and NPP have succeeded in building their political momentum on exposing failures rather than presenting visionary solutions or delivering tangible development.

“NPP and NDC have over the years being so lazy because the internal mechanism is not able to push those who are at every level of leadership to work hard for the party,” Odike asserted.

He recalled previous instances where large numbers of party members defected across political lines, only to note that such shifts have vanished.

According to Odike, “Both parties have become so lazy to the extent that the mistakes of the incumbent helps the opposition to reclaim power.”

He insisted the trend is not driven by hardwork and strategic effectiveness, but rather by dependence on public backlash.

“It is never the effectiveness of the opposition that wins them power at all… Currently the NPP is only awaiting for the NDC’s mistakes to capitalize on it and woo supporters to their side.”

Odike warned that this dynamic has widened the political divide and entrenched what he called “a canker affecting both parties negatively.”

“Due to their laziness approach everyone is seizing an opportunity to cash cow to enrich themselves. This practice erodes the democratic value of constructive competition,” he told host Saddick Adams.

Emphasizing a need for political renewal, Odike believes that victory must stem from policies that uplift citizens, not tactics that merely undercut opponents.
