The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) has confirmed the death of one individual following a fire outbreak on Tuesday, July 22, 2025, at an uncompleted fuel station in Ejura Babasso, near the cemetery.
In a statement dated July 23, 2025, the GNFS described the incident as tragic, noting that “the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) regrets to report a fatal fire incident… which claimed one life.”
It explained that “The Ejura Fire Station received a distress call at approximately 12:25 p.m. concerning block number E 6264, believed to be retailing petrol in gallons. A crew led by Station Officer I Daniels Moah was dispatched and arrived on scene within six minutes. Upon arrival at 12:31 p.m., the fire had already engulfed the uncompleted fuel station.
“The adept crew battled the raging fire upon arrival, brought it under control within ten (10) minutes, and fully extinguished it at 12:55 p.m. using water,” the statement indicated.
The deceased, identified as 25-year-old Ali Abubakari, perished in the blaze.
His body was handed over to officers from the Ejura Police Command for further investigation.
The fire also partially damaged gallons of petrol and six bags of beans stored within the structure, although the firefighters managed to salvage an additional six bags during the operation.
While investigations into the cause of the fire continue, the GNFS cautioned, the public [is urged] to refrain from storing or dispensing petroleum products in unauthorized or unsafe structures.
“We extend our deepest condolences to the family of the deceased and reaffirm our commitment to protecting lives and property through timely and professional emergency response,” the GNFS stated.
