Attorney-General and Minister for Justice, Dr. Dominic Akuritinga Ayine, has reaffirmed his commitment to impartial justice in the current administration.
According to Dr. Ayine, his stance on running a fair office will become evident to all Ghanaians once investigations and prosecutions extend to appointees of the current government found to be engaged in wrongdoing.
Speaking at the Presidency on Monday, July 28, 2025, the AG dismissed allegations of bias in handling cases and insisted that he stands by his integrity and remains committed to backing his words with actions.
“Now, the question on selective prosecution, right, when I announced the dropping and termination of former NDC officials and appointees, I gave concrete reasons that legal professionals agreed with. And I also said the cases were not being terminated because of the political colouration of the persons who were before the court. I set them based on their merit and then decided that I was not going forward with them. I believe that the proof of the pudding is in the eating.
“I have always said that when we come to a point where current NDC appointees are being investigated and prosecuted, that is when Ghanaians will know that I am a man of my word,” he said during the Government Accountability Series.
He stressed the principle of equal treatment before the law, regardless of party affiliations.
“I have said it time and again that the fact that you are an appointee of this government doesn’t mean that you are immune from prosecution. But if you bring baseless charges against people, like they did to the finance minister, and then finally went back looking for evidence.
“You don’t expect me, at my level as a senior member of the Bar and former law lecturer, to come and look at that case and say please proceed because if I drop it they will say the two of us belong to the same political party, I don’t take that as any serious criticism.”
The AG further encouraged the public to consider scrutinising his office’s track record since assuming office compared to the previous government than indulging in mere accusations.
“So, we are not engaged in selective prosecution, you will notice that there is a much difference between what we are doing and what was done in the past. Just look at the investigations, and look at what we did in the Kwabena Adu Boahen case,” the AG emphasized.
