The Ghana Police Service has refuted reports suggesting it carried out a raid at the residence of Ibrahim Baba Bukari, Bono East Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), resulting in the death of one individual.
In an statement, the Police described the claims as false and clarified that the reported death occurred during a response to a robbery incident on Friday, August 1, 2025, around 1:20 a.m.
Explaining the circumstances, the police said officers from the Bono East Regional Command, acting on intelligence, confronted suspects attempting to flee over a wall. One of the individuals, identified as Seidu Bukari, sustained gunshot wounds during the operation and was later pronounced dead at the hospital.
The deceased was known to the Police as a member of a robbery syndicate linked to multiple motorbike thefts in Techiman and surrounding areas, with reported resale activity in Kumasi.
According to the statement, he had previously been named as an accomplice in another case under active investigation.
Further investigation confirmed that the suspects had returned to Techiman to perpetrate a similar crime and were intercepted by the Police.
Law enforcement retrieved a motorbike and various items believed to have been used during the attempted robbery. A manhunt is currently underway for other members of the gang who escaped.
While the operation occurred at a property later identified as belonging to Mr. Bukari, the Police emphasized that no raid was conducted on the residence itself.
The Inspector-General of Police has since dispatched a specialized team from the Criminal Investigation Department, the Police Professional Standards Bureau, and the Police Intelligence Directorate to conduct a comprehensive inquiry into the incident.
